Making A Difference

FOOD PROVISION

In Jamaica, a lack of economic access to food poses the main threat to adequate nutrition of the populace. Twenty percent of the population lives below the national poverty line, the majority of whom live in rural areas with poor infrastructural development. This makes access to food resources difficult. The prospects are just as bleak across the Caribbean region. Given our mandate to focus on the whole child, proper nutrition is at the core of what we do to ensure heightened performance in our students.

TUTORING SERVICES

The education system is overwhelmed. Currently, the average student to teacher ratio is 24.79. But the stark reality is that in most classrooms in the areas we serve, that ratio is closer to 50. This means that students are not getting as much individual attention which severely hinders the progress of the students. We keep our ratio at a maximum of 5 and try to supplement the tutelage that is being done by the faculty at our partner schools.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES PROVISION

Students need the tools to perform. We provide textbooks, notebooks, stationery and backpacks. Beyond the traditional school supplies, we have always seen the importance of an e-learning format and through our sponsors and donors have provided our students with tablets and access to e-learning platforms so that they may get the practice they need for their examinations. COVID-19 has only strengthened our resolve in pushing for more resources for remote learning.

HEALTHCARE PROVISION

Single parent households in Jamaica account for 41% of living situations. These make up the majority of the households that are below the poverty line. This is the trend across the entire Caribbean region. As such, these families struggle to afford decent healthcare for their children. A child is only as productive as he is healthy. We provide comprehensive health checkups via our partner private clinics to ensure that our students have one less worry as they try to get an education.
